Phantom Farewell

I can't remember how life looked without you
We've been together two dozen autumns
But you fell not for I was lying ocean bottom

You were made for me see
It was I who molded your shape
Perfecting it as I held you to my face

Even now you wear my stormy tears
Yours, nowhere in sight
Back turned to me as the sun at night

Admit it, our lust is dimming my sweet
The light of my glow slowly flickers to sleep
What was once freedom has become a lonely keep

Do behold our memories
As my hands caress your stiffness
For my next act I must beg your forgiveness

Know that you have done no wrong
The part you played to perfection
Yet always does truth birth resurrection

If you find that you should
Blame love as the undeniable cause
Though she is the audience to give us applause

The pain cracks, as I break you apart
I cry knowing we shall meet again
If not in this life then the next thousand o' friend

The curtains have finally closed
I've but one last task
Thus I bid thee farewell, my beloved Mask
