There are few authorities as mysterious as the Vatican. For decades, speculation surrounding the city and its secrets have pointed to supernatural knowledge. And a new norm from the Vatican’s documental office may reveal just that.
The document, called “The Norms for Proceeding in the Discernment of Alleged Supernatural Phenomena”, was posted on Friday May 17th, 2024, and is a complete revision of the 1978 norm. In it affirms the recognition of the supernatural by the Vatican, saying “…action of the Holy Spirit can also reach our hearts through certain supernatural occurrences, such as apparitions or visions of Christ or the Blessed Virgin, and other phenomena.”
This comes at a time when the Vatican is under the lense, with UFO whistleblower David Grusch saying in an interview with NewsNation last year that the church had actually be involved in a crashed UFO retrieval back in 1933. Grusch, a United States Air Force officer and former intelligence official, has been outspoken about the ongoing secret retrieval and reverse engineering program in the US since his resignation, ending with his position as a representative of the NRO to the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force.
“1933 was the first recovery in Europe in Magenta, Italy. They recovered a partially intact vehicle…The Italian government moved it to a secure airbase in Italy for the rest of kind of the fascist regime until 1944-1945. And you know, the Pope Pius the 12th back channeled that,” he told the journalist.
When asked if the Vatican was involved, he responded, “Yeah, and told the Americans what the Italians had, and we ended up scooping it.”
The Catholic church has remained a primary authority on a multitude of paranormal activity, including several cases of apparitions, ghosts, and especially exorcisms. And perhaps it’s no coincidence that it operates two observatories; both the Vatican Observatory at Castel Gandolfo and the Mount Graham International Observatory at the University of Arizona.
This begs the question, does the Vatican know more than it’s leading on when it comes to UFOs and other unexplained occurrences? According to Father Jose Gabriel Funes, the director of the Vatican Observatory, alien life is a real possibility.
“Just as there is a multiplicity of creatures on Earth, there can be other beings, even intelligent, created by God,” he said back in 2008. “If we consider some earthly creatures as brother and sister, why couldn’t we also talk of an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? He would also belong to creation,” said Funes.
The norm, according to the contents, aims to provide quicker investigations towards the supernatural in an effort to clarify the experience for its followers. It states that, “the (Norms) that we now present here are not intended to control or stifle the Spirit. In fact, in the best cases involving events of alleged supernatural origin, the Diocesan Bishop is encouraged to appreciate the pastoral value of this spiritual proposal, and even to promote its spread”.
